Vikings in the North of Maine?

A group of amateur archeologists has just unearthed a major find along the coast of northern Maine. They believe that they have found the remains of a viking settlement. This site is in pristine condition, so they have asked the Smithsonian Institute to send a team of experts to the site to determine its authenticity. Your team has been selected to go. It will be your job to examine the site, and its artifacts, to see if they represent a real viking village.
Your team will need to draw upon your years of experience, as viking scholars, in order to reconstruct this settlement. The Smithsonian has asked you to create a 3-dimensional diorama, of the village, and to write an 6 to 8 page summary of your findings. You will be presenting these to the Museums Board of Directors. You must convince the Board of the site's validity, so that they will give you a research grant to continue working there.
1. You will be assigned to a team of 4 student experts.
2. Each team member will take on the role, and duties, of one of these experts. The team will consist of an historian, an anthropologist, a theologian, and a linguist. (When you have read about your job, you may click on your job title to return here).
3. Once you have chosen your role, click on your job title to see what your responsibilities are.
4. Using the resource links provided, create your part of the summary. Remember. The entire summary will be presented to the Board. You may use the links on the endpage, for additional resources, if needed.
5. After all of your research is done, and your summaries are written, get together for a team meeting to evaluate your work. (You should use the set of criteria, which were put together by the Chairman of the Board, to do this evaluation).
6. Once you have completed your team's evaluation, combine your for sections into one well-written summary.
7. Now it is time to create your 3-dimensional diorama of the viking settlement. What does it look like. What did you find there that convinced you of its authenticity? (Use labels to identify the things that you have discovered at the site).
8. It is finally time to go before the Board of Directors to present your findings. Don't be nervous. They probably don't know half as much as you do about the vikings! Good luck to you all!!
9. As you present your findings, the Chairman of the Board will evaluate your project. This evaluation will be based upon the same criteria that you used in your self-evaluation.
