The Coelacanth was first appeared about 350 million years ago and was believed to have become extinct 60 million years ago. It wasn't until 1938 that a live specimen was captured in the Indian Ocean the southern coast of Africa. A second one wasn't captured until 1952, but it was later learned that the natives of the area had been catching Coelacanths for many years describing them as edible once they were dried and salted. It has been recently learned that the coelacanth may be going extinct once again due to overfishing by the locals.
